Congress leader Sam Pitroda’s remark suggesting India should not view China as an enemy has ignited a fierce backlash, with the BJP accusing Congress of secret ties with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Sam Pitroda’s “China Not Our Enemy” Remark Triggers Massive Political Controversy
BJP Accuses Congress of Secret Ties with China Amid Heated Political Debate
New Delhi: Congress veteran Sam Pitroda, who heads the party’s overseas wing, has found himself at the center of yet another controversy after suggesting that the threat from China is often exaggerated. His remarks, urging India to rethink its “confrontational approach” toward China, have sparked a massive backlash from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has accused Congress of having a hidden agreement with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Pitroda’s Controversial Comments on China
In an interview with IANS, Pitroda stated that India should stop assuming China as an enemy and instead adopt a more pragmatic approach to bilateral relations. His remarks come on the heels of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s claim in Parliament that India had lost part of its territory to China—a statement strongly refuted by the government.
Pitroda’s comments have reignited the political debate on India’s foreign policy, with critics accusing the Congress of undermining national security concerns.
BJP’s Sharp Response: Congress-CCP MoU Under Fire
The ruling BJP wasted no time in hitting back, alleging that Pitroda’s statement was proof of Congress’s long-standing pro-China stance. BJP national spokesperson Tuhin Sinha claimed that the root of the Congress’s China-friendly approach lies in a 2008 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Congress and the CCP.
“Those who ceded 40,000 square kilometers of our land to China still refuse to acknowledge the threat from the Dragon. No wonder Rahul Gandhi admires China and was even backing China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) just a day before India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEEC) was announced. The Congress party’s obsessive fascination with China is deeply connected to the mysterious 2008 Congress-CCP MoU,” said Sinha.
Political Ramifications
Pitroda’s remarks have deepened the political divide between Congress and BJP, especially on the sensitive issue of India-China relations. The BJP has demanded answers on the alleged 2008 agreement, while Congress has not officially responded to the latest accusations.
With elections around the corner, Pitroda’s statement has provided fresh ammunition to the ruling party, further intensifying the Congress vs. BJP debate on national security and foreign policy.
