The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing marked its 39th Foundation Day with senior government officials and industry leaders highlighting its crucial role in strengthening India’s position in advanced technologies and digital innovation.
Driving India’s Technological Leadership
S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), addressed the event virtually and praised C-DAC for its contributions to high-performance computing, cybersecurity, semiconductor technologies, and emerging digital domains.
He highlighted C-DAC’s role in key national missions such as:
- National Supercomputing Mission
- National Semiconductor Mission
- National Quantum Mission
Krishnan stressed the importance of focusing on emerging technologies like quantum computing, RISC-V, blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT), while also calling for greater self-reliance in core technologies such as operating systems and databases.
Strengthening Industry and Research Collaboration
The MeitY Secretary emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between industry, academia, and defence sectors. He also highlighted the importance of translational research that delivers real-world impact.
He welcomed C-DAC’s growing partnerships with industry and its expanding role in strategic sectors, noting that such collaborations are vital for innovation and national growth.

C-DAC’s Role in India’s Space and Digital Future
S. Somanath, former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation, highlighted C-DAC’s contribution to India’s space capabilities.
He pointed to the organisation’s legacy in supercomputing through the PARAM series and its collaboration with ISRO in developing computing systems for space missions.
Dr. Somanath also spoke about global trends such as:
- Expansion of satellite constellations
- Use of AI-driven autonomous systems
- Convergence of space and digital technologies
He stressed the need for indigenous development of small satellites, supply chains, and critical components to ensure technological self-reliance.
Focus on Innovation and Commercialisation
Sudeep Shrivastava highlighted the importance of bridging the gap between research and commercialisation. He called for a focus on people-centric solutions, innovation, and maintaining high quality standards.
