Public Impact
The new service is expected to facilitate business travel, trade, and tourism between India and China, two of Asia’s largest economies.
Improved connectivity may benefit industries relying on cross-border trade, as well as travellers seeking direct and time-efficient routes.
Passengers from cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai can now access Shanghai more easily via Kolkata.
Conclusion
The Kolkata–Shanghai route marks a significant addition to IndiGo’s international network and India’s aviation connectivity.
As demand for international travel continues to recover, such routes are likely to play a key role in strengthening economic and cultural ties between the two countries.
